Boonen decision expected Friday
Tom Boonen will find out on Friday whether he has been granted a last minute reprieve to compete in the Tour de France which starts in Monaco on Saturday.
The former world road race champion, and current Belgian national champion, was barred from the Tour following a positive test for cocaine in April.
Boonen's fate is being decided by the French Olympic Committee's arbitration panel.
The Quick Step rider missed last year's Tour for the same reason.

A conversation with Jim Felt
We recently bumped into Jim Felt, head bike designer of his namesake company Felt Bicycles, in the Cote d?Azur airport. He is in the middle of a three-week trip that first took him to Aigle, Switzerland, to visit the UCI, where he met with Jean Wauthier, the organization?s technical director and Phillippe Chevallier, the road coordinator.

Riis confident in Saxo squad
Saxo Bank manager Bjarne Riis expressed confidence that his team will be tough to beat in the race for the maillot jaune in this year?s Tour de France.
Riis, the 1996 Tour winner who two years ago admitted to having used the banned blood booster EPO as a rider, won the race for the first time as manager last year when Spaniard Carlos Sastre triumphed for CSC.

A first look at Cannondale's 2010 line of mountain and road bikes.
The mechanics at the ?10 Canndonale product release in Park City, Utah certainly had their work cut out for them. It was their job to assemble and disassemble 250, ride-ready road, mountain, and commuter bikes for 500 visiting Cannondale dealers during a two-week period. At the tail end of the Cannondale international sales meeting, VeloNews was given the opportunity to preview and ride the bikes of next year.

Andrew Hood pre-rides the Monaco TT with Bobby Julich
Bobby Julich says fans and cyclists are in for a real treat come Saturday when the 15.5km individual time trial at Monaco opens the 96th Tour de France.
The ex-pro ? who retired after the 2008 season and now works with the Saxo Bank team as technical advisor, counseling his teammates on equipment and time trial preparation ? says the Monaco time trial puts an exclamation mark on the front end of the Tour.

Garmin makes last-minute roster change
The Garmin-Slipstream team announced on Thursday that Martijn Maaskant will replace injured Irish rider Dan Martin on its Tour de France roster.
Martin, who has been suffering from tendinitis in his knee, concluded that he would be unable to ride the upcoming three-week race, leaving a gap on the team's roster, which will now be filled with Maaskant.

Vino' says he will be on Astana ... or heads will roll
Alexander Vinokourov said Wednesday he intends to ride for Astana later this year or there will be serious consequences for those who keep him from riding on the Kazakh-financed team.
In a press conference held in Monaco in advance of Saturday?s Tour de France start, Vinokourov, whose suspension for homologous blood doping ends on July 24, said there?s no possibility that he would ride for any team other than the one he helped establish in 2006.

Over 400 racers from the ages of 30 to 86 lined up to contest the rolling out-and-back course in Taylorsville, Ky. Junior Track Nationals set to begin Thursday in Carson
The USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships are set to begin this Thursday. The event, which runs through Sunday, July 5, will see the next generation of American track cyclists vie for 24 national titles at the Home Depot Center Velodrome in suburban L.A. Stars-and-stripes jerseys will be awarded to the winners in each of the men's 17-18 and women's 17-18 individual events and to the overall omnium winners in the men's and womens's 10-12, 13-14, and 15-16 categories.

Road racing wraps up at Masters Road Nationals
The road racing portion of the USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships wrapped up in Cherokee Park on Tuesday with Stars-and-Stripes awarded in the menandrsquo;s 35-39, 40-44 and 45-49 age divisions. The time trial competition is set take place on Wednesday in Taylorsville, Ky. followed by three days of criterium racing in Churchill Downs.

Bahati wins in Manhattan Beach; Haedo takes over NRC lead
Rashaan Bahati won the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar's 15th 2009 event, the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix on Sunday. After finishing second in Manhattan Beach, Lucas Sebastian Haedo takes over the NRC overall men's standings lead with 15 of 27 events complete, while Alison Powers continues to lead the women's individual standings. Colavita-Sutter Home p/b Cooking Light currently leads the men's team standings while Team Type I remained in the top spot on the women's side. The next event on the 2009 NRC will be the 2.3-rated Fitchburg Longsjo Classic, July 2-5 in Fitchburg, Mass.

Eight men's road race national titles awarded at masters nationals
The USA Cycling Masters National Championships continued on Monday with day two of road racing in Louisvilleandrsquo;s Cherokee Park where nearly 300 competitors gunned for eight national titles in the older master menandrsquo;s categories as well as the 30-34 andldquo;baby masterandrdquo; division. Racing will continue on Tuesday with the 35-49 menandrsquo;s age divisions competing for the final three road racing national titles of 2009.

Weekly Wrap-Up: Van Garderen 24th in UCI European Standings
USA Cycling National Development Team riders produced some outstanding results over the last week. Taylor Phinney scored fifth-place in Belgium's ITW Oestingen pour Thomas De Gendt on June 24th while Chloe Forsman finished fifth in the U23 women's contest at the sixth round of tjhe Engleberg Swiss Racer Bike Cup on Sunday. Additionally, Tejay Van Garderen is the top American in the UCI European Standings, sitting in 24th overall.

Masters Road Nationals get underway in Louisville
The USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships got underway on Sunday by awarding 16 national titles in womenandrsquo;s and tandem road racing. Native Louisvillians were the stars of the womenandrsquo;s road racing, grabbing the Stars-and-Stripes in two of nine events before more than 40 tandems took the rolling five-mile course in Cherokee Park.
